Case Study: Risk Mitigation for a $75MM Family Balance Sheet

The challenge
A client with an approximately $75 million balance sheet engaged Avidian for a comprehensive review of his financial structure and risk exposure. During the assessment, it became clear that several real estate holdings created meaningful personal liability concerns.
Without the appropriate ownership structure and asset protection framework in place, the family’s wealth faced potential exposure from litigants and other legal claims tied to the underlying properties.
The plan
Avidian conducted a full risk assessment across the client’s holdings, liabilities, and ownership structures. Based on our findings, we developed a customized risk mitigation strategy designed to help manage exposure and support the protection of the family’s assets.
This included coordinating with specialized legal counsel retained by the client and coordinating the creation of the appropriate legal entities to take ownership of the real estate assets. Throughout the process, Avidian coordinated planning discussions among the client’s professional advisors and assisted in implementing the agreed-upon wealth planning strategy to help ensure the structure aligned with the family’s broader wealth plan.
The result
The real estate assets were successfully transferred into the appropriate entities, creating a more robust asset protection framework. The result was an ownership structure designed to better separate the family’s broader balance sheet from potential claims and help reduce personal liability exposure, while also aligning with their estate planning and wealth transfer objectives.
